I have read that philosophy begins in thaumázein, but what does it mean to say that Life begins and ends with thaumázein? As Nietzsche writes in Will to Power:  This world is the will to power - and nothing besides! and That there is considerable enlightenment to be gained by positing power in place of the individual 'happiness' each living thing is supposed to be striving for: 'It strives for power, for an augmentation of power'.  Both statements are an expression of a uniform kind of source of whatever happens in the living, organic world…but it is in just such a world whereby meaning can only be defined in ends and not beginnings. And thus it can be said that where beginning and end live peacefully together is the über-conscious dichotomy between Existence and Life; and it is in this über-consciousness where and when thaumázein flourishes. Thaumázein is the what —the flooring—giving Aristotle’s happiness a place of shine, and, as such, it is the stuff that made Nietzsche crazy.  Although Nietzsch writes:  What separates me most deeply from the metaphysicians is: I don’t concede that the ‘I’, is what thinks. Instead, I take the I itself to be a construction of thinking, of the same rank as ‘matter’, ‘thing’, ‘substance’, ‘individual’, ‘purpose’, ‘number’; in other words to be only a regulative fiction with the help of which a kind of constancy and thus ‘knowability’ is inserted into, invented into, a world of becoming. Up to now belief in grammar, in the linguistic subject, object, in verbs has subjugated the metaphysicians: I teach the renunciation of this belief (From the Notebooks 35, Section II)[1]; it was his ‘I’ which consumed him in the end Thus Spoke Garlic
